Oil Film Detection
Oil is a major contaminant and a small quantity may have a very serious effect especially within aquatic systems. Especially for industry, oil film detection at trace level concentrations is a priority. Even a small quantity can form a large surface film which is highly visible.
Pollution & Process Monitoring (PPM) is able to supply an oil film monitor that uses a non-contact detection methodology, capable of detecting floating oil films below visible traces. The oil monitor is positioned above a point of discharge, or within the drainage system, continuously measuring surface reflectance which increases with the presence of oil. The increased reflectance can be detected and an alarm triggered to identify the presence of floating oil.
The oil detection monitor may also be posited above water intakes to prevent the ingress of oil into filter beds which may affect drinking water quality. Since the technology is non-contact and reagentless; the monitoring technique offers a reliable detection methodology with very low running cots.
